MATTIN – Songbook #7 LP

I’m not gonna try and dissect the ART behind this cos I’ll be honest, I’ve not given it more than one listen and I feel much of Mattin’s stuff requires you to really get inside it and think about what’s going on. Musically, there is a lot of spoken word here and the lyrics often seem to be political allusions/confusing rhetoric (“Liberals listen to Leonard Cohen”, “Dark….Dick Cheyney…..SATAN!”); musically we have a stellar cast of improvisors channelling the words with some blasting skronk. As with all Mattin’s work, this is a difficult one, but his stuff always endures!
